Abstract
Rodrigo and his straight man "the professor" discuss civic republicanism and other highly aspirational approaches to social organization that emphasize virtue good citizenship and universal qualities of cosmopolitanism and respect for mankind in general They review recent writing in this school of thought and conclude that it is a reaction to unsettled times Invoking the Owl of Minerva they conclude that what the world needs today is not so much theories of Olympic retreat and detachment but ones that guide and shape wise action in the world
