Abstract
Rodrigo recounts a course of argument with his good friend and colleague Laz who is conservative The two agree that rightwing operatives in the United States are putting increasing pressure on communities of color by backing welfare cutbacks restricting affirmative action and changing voting rules so as to make it harder for minorities and the poor to cast a ballot or have it mean very much Laz proposes an audacious explanation for these actions and suggests that these operatives have in mind a new position for Latinos in the new scheme of racial and classbased stratification that is emerging
