Abstract

Judge Eli Shortridge (1794-1843) kept this detailed record book while serving as an 11th District circuit court judge covering the Kentucky counties of Montgomery, Bath, Greenup, and Floyd. The records give the date of the court session, a list of jury members, and brief summaries of the cases. Shortridge moved to Alabama in 1822 where he practiced law. He later served a brief term on the state supreme court, and in 1828 was elected to the state legislature representing Tuscaloosa County. In 1835 he was elected to the circuit court where he served until his death in 1843.
